Flaunting Your Flaws

Flaunting Your Flaws

In the news… well….my household news… I’m dealing with a lot of “jealousy”.
My oldest kid has been lying to us for the last six weeks about attending swim practice. We’re talking excuse after excuse as to why when he wouldn’t get in the pool. Turns out it’s because the other teams seemed better and then he decided that he wasn’t going to be associated with the losers

I don’t get it.. or at least I’m struggling to understand… and I’m reaching in and looking at my character flaws.

Maybe he gets it from me. It is no secret that I’m going to call you a skinny bitch when I see you. I’ll love you to death but trust when I say I’m gonna feed you!

I was reminded of them today when I stepped out of the office door and bumped into one of the staff members. She’s like six-feet tall in her heels, long flow-y hair and uber pretty... and super nice. At that moment I remembered I forgot my fitbit. I said hi... went back and grabbed my tracker. Her perfectness reminded me of my flaws.. things I can’t help. I’ll never be close to six-feet… certainly not with any sane shoes either.

I accept my flaws and laugh at myself. What’s the saying… accept the things you cannot change... and change the things I can. Serenity now!

I am a horrible critique partner because I instantly become your #1 fangirl.

You know how they say if you want to be a writer... you must read. Man! I get so jealousy over the brilliancy of authors. My latest is the Once Upon a Bridesmaid series.

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting all of these ladies and my gawd they are some down to earth folks. If you get a chance, please visit my friends-- Sherelle GreenSheryl ListerAngela Seals, and Elle Wright

I even got jealous with the Christmas anthology last year where all the books had Christmas song titles. BUT… I loved the stories. Love, Christmas - Holiday stories that will put a song in your heart!

So bottom line is… I don’t let my jealous consume me. Instead… I let it motivate me to be a better person. It also helps to not be coo-coo-crazy when the authors are super nice and allow me to act like the uber fan girl.

So...I think we know by know I am the jealous type. I'm jealous of people's Christmas trees, their yards, their homes, the size of clothes they can wear... the ability to take just one selfie and be satisfied with it. I even got jealous of the way a couple of ladies put together a presentation... all nice and neat and perfect. And then there's me.
But I've learned to embrace it.

A Tiara Under the Tree (Once Upon a Tiara) by [Hector, Carolyn]

So when it comes to my writing, all of my characters have flaws. In my latest book, A Tiara Under the Tree, My beauty queen, Waverly Leverve, has spent her entire life with one goal in mind--becoming Miss USA. In order to get to that tiara, she has to jump a few hurdles... becoming Miss Georgia is one of them. So when she's stripped of her crown for bad behavior she sees her dreams going up in flames and what does she do? Drowns her sorrows in all the the things she wasn't able to have when competing--cupcakes, pizza & beer, and the companionship of a man.

I hope you'll get a chance to check it out this holiday seasson. I've got to get back to writing.

Don't forget.. next month is NaNoWriMo

Happy Reading! Happy Writing

  1. Whew! I was really sweating to see what you'd say about my Love, Christmas box set. Glad you liked it.

Brave post, Carolyn. Btw, you can call me a skinny bitch. That would make my day. Well, the skinny part. *g* No one has called me skinny since the days I weighed 97 pounds.

  3. Carolyn, I love this post! I do try not to be envious, but then I hear someone made this list or that one or just made X amount of money per year and I start beating myself up. Not jealousy exactly, just feeling I am falling short of the mark.
