All's Fair in Writing

By Carolyn Hector

I’m kind of at a crossroads with writing. There’s NaNoWriMo going on this month (anyone doing it? chectorhall). I’ve got a manuscript due in February and then another one a few months afterwards but I won’t be on the shelf until June 2017. A good friend said it’s time for me to get an agent… and then there are a few other manuscripts I want to finish. Maybe 2018 there will be a book for every month? One can hope, right?

It’s finally cold in town.  I think there’s something about the fair that brings it…
and young love.
I’m a people watcher and I spent the day watching. Everyone had a story in my head.

There was the big guy at the strong-man machine thing. It reminded me of a scene from Popeye.

I love watching the hot dads try to throw a dart or a basketball in order to win their date a stuffed animal. ... Then there are the dads you see determined to get their kid something.

I’m not a big fan of rides. The older I get (and fatter)… the bigger scaredy cat I become. But it’s fun watching some of these group dates get on the Ferris wheel and then seeing that one couple break off to get some alone time.
Ahh love at the fair. Ain’t it grand? Do you have a favorite fair story.. or book you’ve read? One of my favorites is by  Candace Shaw … AND it’s a Christmas story too. Check it out. Only You For Christmas

Well I have to get back to my NaNoWriMo… I hope to report success on

PS... Can I say that there are some books that make me so jealous for not coming up with the idea... here's one... I FREAKING LOVE THIS!!!
Bravo y'all!

  1. Carolyn, I'm a people watcher, too. I didn't get to go to the state fair this year. My daughter and some friends went. When we lived in a rural area with an orchard and garden, I used to enter home canned jams, jellies, and vegetables in the fair. I won a nice assortment of blue ribbon. Now I don't even cook because my husband does that for me so I have more time to write. I'm trying to do a a book a month but I was ill and missed one month. Good luck with Nanowritmo.

  2. The fair! What fun. I love the foods at our local country fair--sugared waffles, hot sausage and pulled pork sandwiches, soft ice cream, etc. I make sure that I attend at least one evening to eat, see a good show, and visit the animal barns.

  3. On behalf of myself and my fellow Love, Christmas authors, thanks for the shout-out! I'm so glad you love our box set--or the idea of the box set. It was a lot of fun putting it together. It's still at the new release price of 99cents!!

    Good luck with NaNoWriMo!

  4. I just gotta say how pleased I was by your comments for "Love, Christmas". Having every song as a title for a Christmas carol was a lot of fun to work with. Stories like, Silver Bells and Do you Hear What I Hear? and White Christmas just make the season that much better if this is your holiday reading. We believe it's the best collection of stories for the 2016 season!
