Things to do at a Writer's Retreat..

As this is posting, I am currently away at writer’s retreat.
One of the cohorts could not make it this weekend and so I’ve gone back to my youth…. back in the day when I played with Barbies, I’d write scripts the night before and hand them out to my friends before we’d start playing. For the friend who could not make it, I purchased a few Barbies to represent all of us and we’ve been playing a game of “Elf on a Shelf”
and yes—we are not as mature as we should be.

But believe it or not, I am working.
I’m working on a proposal for a 4-part series. Because I love these ladies so much and they love me, there’s no worrying about what to wear or makeup (well, I must wear my mascara). I am wearing sweats and an old t-shirt right now. So packing didn’t take long. I think in my previous blog I mentioned about things to bring. Did I mention a soundtrack to write to?

So here I am rotating my 1k sprints for each book. Each hero has their own soundtrack. So right about now I’m switching from Classic Rock… a lil’ Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Guns N’ Roses.
Another book calls for some new stuff Chris Brown and Zayn (my daughter freaked out hearing me download this), and for another one … Alabama Shakes, Andra Day. I’ve got 80’s for the final book I’m working with.
The biggest problem right now might be belting out the songs.

So what’s in your soundtrack?

  1. Carolyn, three of my friends and I have a writer's retreat at a lake house where we plot books like crazy. No sound tracks, but lots of work done. Wherever you live, you may have heard us laughing. We accomplish a lot, including a little marketing talk. It's an important time to recharge as well as plot books.

  2. That looks like so much fun! There's nothing like getting away with like minded friends. I hope your retreat is productive.
