Finally Summer, and Bon Voyage From Susan Sheehey

Finally, summer!

Summer is my favorite season, yes, even down here in Texas where it's a billion degrees and we can cook eggs on the sidewalk (not the best recommended flavor). But it's the season where I can go swimming with my boys, their most favorite thing in the world. I also have my most fruitful plotting sessions in the pool.

More importantly, summer is when most of my novels are set.
Royals of Solana series in the South Pacific, the Knights of Texas novella series in Texas, and the Sweet Escape series in various tropical resorts, or at least by a beach.

What do you have planned for the summer? Any interesting trips or experiences planned?

I have a lot planned this summer. Between RWA Convention in Colorado in July, followed by a writer's retreat with friends at Lake Conroe, I'll be busy chauffeuring around my boys to various appointments and summer camps. They are both on the Autism Spectrum, and require a lot of intervention (literally, appointments every single day for both of them).
So, I think I'm going to invest in voice recording software for the frequent hauls in the car. That's the only way I can keep up with my writing schedule. Not to mention, I always carry around my notebook to write while I sit in lobbies.

Unfortunately, for those reasons, I have to bow out of my contributions to Smart Girls Read Romance Blog.

Thank you all for following me here. I've greatly enjoyed being a part of this wonderful blog, and sharing with you. The authors on this page are fantastic, and you're in good hands with them! I'd like to extend a special thanks to Caroline Clemmons, a true gem!

Keep reading, keep loving, farewell, and God bless you all!

Merry Christmas With Straight No Chaser - By Susan Sheehey

I'm a total sucker for Christmas carols, especially ones that make me laugh my face off. I found Straight No Chaser several years ago from my husband who found their YouTube videos. Seeing them live is even better. They are my favorite A Capella group, and I run their Christmas album on loop all December.

Here's one of my all-time favorites, their version of 12 Days of Christmas.
I promise, you will not be able to stop laughing.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanza, or whatever you celebrate. Peace be with you.

Can't get enough? Here's another one I adore, the Christmas Can-Can.

Book Signings and Festivals by Susan Sheehey

Today we’re talking about book signings.
Whether at a small bookstore with only one author, or a large 4-5 day convention with hundreds of authors, there’s something special about holding a precious, autographed novel. I like all kinds of signings, even the ones that are more taxing on the checking account.
What kind of book signing do you like going to?

A small book signing at a local bookstore or coffee shop with one author? All you have to pay for is
the novel itself. Unless you have your own, you can bring it in and have them sign it for you. By far, the most economical.

A larger local book signing, perhaps at a bookstore or other venue with anywhere between two to ten authors present. Once again, you only pay for the book itself, unless you have your own you can bring with you. Like the one I’m attending this Saturday at the Half Price Books in Dallas.

A bigger Book Fest with more than a dozen authors of all kinds of genres, where they tend to have raffles and other prizes. There’s a small entry fee into the book signing, and you still have to pay for the books themselves, but they offer more with it. Some even a small box lunch and/or minor refreshments. Examples of this are the Deliciously Dirty in Dallas signing or North Texas Book Fest.

A large book convention that lasts 4-7 days with a hundred authors or more. This has a hefty registration fee, but the offerings are massive. Not just a book signing, but multiple book signings, and parties every day, author panels, smaller meet and greet where you get to chat and laugh with the authors, including meals, drinks, and more prizes and raffles. And not just little prizes like a Christmas ornament or box of chocolates, but big ones. Like a free registration certificate for the next year’s conference, a tablet computer, small vacation packages, and so many free books. And that’s just the start. The parties are all themed from steampunk, to Hollywood, to formal. Or just go in jeans. Whatever you’re comfortable with. But RT Convention.
these large conventions involve a hotel stay and possible airplane ticket (depending on location). Which are all additional costs, and normally not included with registration fees. An example of one is the

I’ve been to all kinds. I like all kinds, depending on what my pocket book looks like in a given month.

What about you? Which kinds do you like the most?

New Release: JEWEL OF SOLANA Romantic suspense

My third novel releases this month, Jewel of Solana (Jan 22, 2016), and it’s still an incredible and nerve wracking

experience. Just as much as my first release.
This novel took me forever to finish. Having a baby in the middle of the first draft tends to put a major dent in the writing time (although it’s a fantastic excuse!) But for a sequel in a trilogy, I had hoped to have it released sooner.
Nevertheless, I’m so excited to share these characters with the world. To see if people love them as much as I do. That’s the quasi-terrifying part. As much time as I’ve spent with these characters in my head, listening to their stories and struggling to put them on paper, of course I want the world to love them as much as I do. Particularly the hero. He’s on the Autism Spectrum (Asperger's), and his quirks, mindset and analytical thinking processes are very personal to me. Raising a child on the spectrum myself, it’s important that people see these truly special individuals for their gifts, their sweetness, and their incredible desire to be liked. Accepted. Just like the rest of us.
If you’re interested in reading a romantic suspense, set in a tropical and exotic location to get you out of the dreary, winter doldrums, please pick up Jewel of Solana. The second in the Royals of Solana trilogy. You don’t have to have read the first one, Prince of Solana, to understand the story. In fact, if you enjoy Jewel of Solana, you’ll love the first one just as much. (Secret tip: it will be on sale starting Jan 15th for only 99 pennies!)
