Sheesh. Have you ever had one of those weeks where not one, not two, but three technology problems occurred?
Well, I am on the tail end of that kind of week. Actually, it's been almost two weeks.
It all started with a printer that wouldn't work and ended with the WiFi going up and down like a YoYo.
3 SIMPLE STEPS
I was trying to print my 1099 Forms for 2022 when my printer started making this terrible grinding sound. Three days later, I'm in Office Depot picking up a new laser printer. Happy, but much poorer, I head home with the printer and eagerly start the setup process. Three simple steps.
Unfortunately no one told the printer it was supposed to connect and work in 3 steps. Even though the tech requirements for the printer indicated it would work with the operating systems our computers run, it wouldn't.
RING OF HELL FOR THOSE WITH TECH PROBLEMSAfter a day of downloading various MS patches, doing uninstalls and re-installs, and consulting with tech support, the printer still wouldn't work.
Then our WiFi started going off for no good reason. Agh! More calls to the wonderful people at AT&T with no real answers forthcoming except we should invest more money in their new mesh gadgets which are better than the signal expanders we currently possess.
Funny, I'm thinking we should upgrade to a different service.
SHORTEN THIS LONG STORY
We spent $100+ bucks plus the cost of 4 brand new HP toner cartridges and got the old printer repaired. It's working great. The day we brought it home and plugged it in, the NEW printer started working too. Now, we're considering switching WiFi providers because I couldn't get this post uploaded until this afternoon.
I'm reminded of what an Engineer at the Advanced Computing Systems Division of IBM said in 1968 about the microchip: "But what is it good for?"
Unfortunately, some genius found a use for it, and here we are in today's world, stuck in the quagmire of technology.Writing Romance—One Sexy Book at a Time—that's JOAN REEVES, a NYT & USA Today bestselling author of Romantic stories with the underlying premise: “It’s never too late to live happily ever after.” Joan lives her happily-ever-after with her hero, her husband. They divide their time between a book-cluttered home in Houston and a quiet house at the foot of the Texas Hill Country where they sit on the porch at night, look at the star-studded sky, and listen to the coyotes howl.

Nice to see you here, Joan! Sorry you had tech problems but the build-up of waiting for you to show up today created some suspense for me. But then, its the winter blahs season where I am. :)
ReplyDeleteLOL. I'm just happy to be back online. The most excitement here is that it was 85 degrees a couple of days ago, and today it's 40 F. with a keen wind from the north. Good reading weather, right?
DeleteIt's a mess, isn't it? It's also appalling how disconnected we feel when we can't access the cyberworld. How did we live... Glad you're all hooked up and going again. FWIW, my last two printers, both wonderful laser ones, have both had to be wired their entire lives. They wouldn't connect wirelessly for any amount of money, sweat, or tears.
ReplyDeleteYes, it has been a mess. The WiFi issue continues off and on, but I shudder at the thought of having to change ISP. It feels like this big mountain to climb.
DeleteI wondered why I hadn't seen you on line. I had to switch providers recently and it is a pain, but I am happier with this one.
ReplyDeletePlease email me and tell me what you change from and to, Stephanie.
DeleteMy regular day job is work from home when I'm lucky, so internet is important- and I have my hot spot on my phone as back-up. I have Charter Spectrum and they have been mostly great. I can say though there have been more than a few times over my life I wished I lived in a multi-story building so I could toss a piece of technology out the window. Loses something when you only have a one floor house though.
ReplyDeleteLOL. Yes, throwing something out of a first floor window doesn't have the same satisfying crash, does it?
DeleteSending you deepest sympathies for all your tech issues! I've had a WFH, too. We had to get our well pump replaced and electrical along with, and once they didn't tell me they were going to cut the power...you guessed it, my computer went kerflooey. The ship is now righted and I hope it stays that way for a while, and same for you. ☺
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jacquie. I think part of our problem is this new area we moved to in July 2021 has a lot of power surges and sudden shut downs. Don't know why that is since it's a much newer residential area than where we moved from. We've got battery backups on the expensive TV, router, and computers, but I think it stresses the equipment every time it happens.
